Our Supply, Trading & Shipping (ST&S) business connects BP to global traded markets across oil, gas, power, refinery feedstocks, and more. Through deep expertise in physical supply and trading, innovative financial solutions, and advanced analytics, ST&S delivers long-term value from the wellhead to the end customer.
This position is part of the FBT team, supporting BP’s supply, trading, and shipping business (ST&S). The role centers on providing strategic leadership—through vision-setting, direction, decision-making, and coaching—with a strong commercial focus for the Budapest-based team. It supports the structured trade finance function by overseeing risk management and ensuring data integrity across relevant systems. Based in Kuala Lumpur, the role contributes to a global, multi-commodity oil and gas business. Successful candidates will collaborate with international experts across various commodities and play a key role in shaping both the initial scope and future direction of the team.
In this role You will:
- Lead and guide the Budapest team to enhance delivery for bp, focusing on both technical capabilities and commercial acumen.
- Oversee collateral management through margining activities, utilizing instruments such as cash and letters of credit (LC).
- Ensure timely and accurate updates to reference data, including onboarding new trading counterparties, updating trading terms, and reflecting changes in external credit ratings.
- Partner with settlements teams to maintain accurate system representation of credit risk exposure and communicate relevant updates to regional teams.
- Engage proactively with regional business units to identify and address portfolio risks or emerging concerns.
- Monitor credit limit utilization and provide recommendations on limit adjustments and counterparty ratings to regional stakeholders.
- Maintain consistency and integrity of data across all credit systems and associated datasets.
- Foster strong communication with banks and counterparties to support trade finance operations.
- Contribute to ad-hoc projects and strategic initiatives as needed.
- Identify and propose process improvements to enhance team efficiency and productivity.
What You will need to be successful:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or a related experience
- Certified Documentary Credit Specialist (CDCS) certification is a plus
- A minimum of 7 to 10 years of relevant experience in collections, credit risk management, or trade finance.
- Strong knowledge of international trade rules, including UCP600 (Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits) and ISP98 (International Standby Practices).
- Proven experience in operational credit or trade finance roles within international/regional banks or multinational corporations.
- Solid understanding of trade finance instruments such as Prepayments, Receivables Securitization, Receivables Discounting, Supply Chain Financing, Inventory Financing, and Trade Credit Insurance.
- Familiarity with general accounting principles, particularly regarding debt and non-debt classification.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Experience working with a credit rating agency or commercial bank is advantageous.
- Proficient in written and spoken English.

- Demonstrates agility and resilience in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.
- Self-motivated with a continuous improvement mindset.
