Purpose of the role
The role is accountable for the execution of Product and MSO deals in the Australian Trading and Midstream business, and is a key contributor to the optimization of the supply plan and originate deals to maximise integrated value for bp. Outside of spot deals the role also leverages relationships to identify and execute term and structured deals
To fulfil the role, the job holder manages a high number of key external relationships (other Australian oil companies, producers, local trading companies), and the internal relationship with the Singapore based international trading team
The job holder works closely with multiple internal groups (ie. Supply Optimisation, Supply Operations, Finance, Strategy, Pricing, Legal, and downstream sales and marketing channels) but also with external stakeholders (customers, suppliers).
The job holder also has the scope to drive and / or support the other DoA holders in the negotiation of term deals, and origination of commercial opportunities.
Key Accountabilities
Negotiation and conclusion of Supply & Unbranded spot purchases and sales
Actively manage the commercials and term contract conditions
The job holder is accountable for developing and maintaining strong working relationships internally with Supply Operations, ST&S, Pricing, Strategy, Logistics, NOJV & Infrastructure, downstream sales, and marketing channels, and externally with other Australian oil companies, producers, local trading companies.
Drive and support the development of the Short to Long-Term Supply Strategy and the formulating of term contracts and MSO structures.
Be aware of and optimize bp’s price exposure and execute appropriate risk management.
Supply contact for other Australian oil companies, producers, and traders. Plans and prepares discussions (maintaining the relationship, extending/approaching new business) and executes the discussion (depending on delegation of authority).

Coaches Operators in commercial and operational matters impacting commercial delivery and relationship with external stakeholders and setting of priorities to maximise commercial value for bp. Escalation point for commercial, contractual and invoicing matters when it involves external counterparts.
Collate and internally disseminate local market intelligence, based on interactions with the market. e.g. growth trends, competitor activities (considering Anti-Trust laws). Provide 2-way market information flow with Singapore trading teams
The job holder will be the leave cover for the other DoA holding roles within the ST&S AU Supply Team
Support the Supply and Trading team across an array of activities and form part of the team that performs the following: MSO, Biofuels, Market Analytics and CI initiatives.
You will not directly supervise others, but you will manage activities for team members across Trading and Midstream (ie. graduates), whilst providing commercial leadership to the scheduling team. Key responsibilities include coaching, influencing work priorities, supporting time management, and occasionally representing Senior Managers at internal and external forums.
Essential Skills and Experience
5+ years professional experience in Sales, Supply or Refining
Considerable experience of holding external relationships and leading negotiations on both short- and long-term commercial arrangements.
Knowledge of relevant legal, tax and custom regulations
Experience in operational businesses. Strong understanding of supply chain operations and optimization is desirable.
Strong understanding of price exposure and risk management
Excellent team player with commitment to overall team success
Dynamic communication skills and the ability to interact effectively across a broad spectrum of teams, and across interfaces.
Ability to build consensus and engagement with key stakeholders across various teams and interfaces.
History of robust decision making under high time pressure and during ambiguity
Ability to manage divergent interests (margin, working capital, and supply security; effective relationships with counterparts and strong commercial delivery)
