Let me tell you about the role

Provision of mechanical engineering expertise and judgment in service of the global programs, operating facilities, brownfield site projects and assets, collaborating with offshore and onshore facilities regional squads to ensure efficient resolution of all issues that require field engineering input. Ensure pragmatic solutions are implemented for management of risk, production efficiency improvement, maintenance, defect elimination and engineering standardization in support of safe, reliable and compliant operations

What you will deliver:

  • Provide mechanical engineering (ME) expertise to TAR, Site Projects, Production & Refinery Units and Squads to support safe, reliable, compliant, and efficient operations.
  • Develop effective, safe, and cost conscious technical solutions for assigned Connexus Queries and Regional Actions within specified timeframes, following ongoing instructions, and lead their implementation through eMOC (electronic management of change) with clear communication to key collaborators throughout the process
  • Perform and review sophisticated or non-routine mechanical engineering calculations and analyses.
  • Perform technical review & approval of new equipment purchases
  • Guides in handling the integrity of equipment including piping, pressure vessels, bolting, valves, and heat exchangers.
  • Perform risk and cost benefit analyses to ensure safe and clear value delivery
  • Support TAR and Site Projects Units by coordinating contractor support and addressing sophisticated, multi-discipline technical issues, with a primary focus on mechanical engineering.
  • Lead risk assessments, represent the subject area in HAZIDs, HAZOPs, LOPA, Project HSSE Reviews, and provide feedback on critical equipment deferrals and asset risk management.
  • Provide mechanical engineering expertise in conducting and leading incident and defect investigations.
  • Review and prove that inspection, testing, maintenance, and condition supervising tasks in SAP align with the technical requirements of Equipment Strategies, and handle content updates of these strategies.
  • Analyze equipment performance using process, operator surveillance, maintenance, inspection and condition-monitoring data to ensure equipment is delivering the required performance aligned with the Equipment Strategy, RBM and RBA/RBI work processes and make recommendations for improvement of equipment performance, as required.
  • Record relevant takeaways in shared learning systems, integrate them into local activities, and bring up high-priority lessons.
  • Respond to emerging work based on experience and knowledge when urgent action is needed.
  • Actively supply to BP technical networks and communities of practice, be involved in technical learning-takeaways establish and maintain connections with specialists and engineers across I&E and other areas of bp.
  • Coach and mentor junior team members and set agreed development achievements and actions.

What you will need to be successful

Must have educational qualifications:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

Preferred education/certifications:

  • Chartered Engineer or Professional Engineer or equivalent

Minimum years of proven experience:

  • 8 years in oil and gas/petrochemical/refining/chemical or equivalent

Total years of experience:

  • 8 – 15 Years

Must have skills (To be hired with):

  • Strong experience and shown understanding of engineering, maintenance and operation of static mechanical equipment, piping in oil & gas processing facilities.
  • Confirmed application of governing codes, industry standards (API, ASME, ISO) and local laws.
  • Confirmed practical application of engineering standards for various mechanical equipment.
  • Field expertise with good track record of multi-discipline integration.
  • Pragmatic decision maker, willing to challenge and ensure engineering values are delivered.
  • Track record of delivery and able to demonstrate effective project technical management and leadership skills.
  • Ability to communicate optimally with all levels of the team, contractors, and leadership.

Additional Information:

Experience in the use of the following tools would be effective:

  • Implicit Finite Element Analysis tools (ANSYS, Abaqus)
  • Pipe Stress Analysis (Caesar II)
  • Pressure Vessel Design and Analysis Tools (Plant manager, Compress, Finglow)

Good to have experiences/skills:

  • Skilled in remote partnership and teamwork
  • Knowledge of process safety and risk management
  • Experience with valve selection, design, operational issues, solving and repair
  • Experience in working with OEMs and vendors on equipment packages
  • Strong experience with piping designs and supports, stress analysis using Caesar, flanged joint designs, integrity assessment and repairs
  • Experience with brownfield modifications, equipment skid packages design, front end engineering, scoping, technical evaluation
