Role Synopsis:

The Senior Process Engineer will join the Projects India organisation in the engineering and quality team to provide engineering expertise, oversight, judgment and support to Projects.

The role is based at the Pune office but will require significant contractor facing work at major engineering contractor office locations in both India and possibly ex-India.

What you will deliver:

  • Lead the development of the process scope of project options to ensure selection and progression of safe, driven and robust projects
  • Lead preparation of core project work and give to development of design documents including Statements of Requirements (SOR) and Basis of Design (BOD), as well as engineering design philosophies and strategies
  • Responsible to identify and lead technical studies and baseline assessments of brownfield scope including developing scopes of work and terms of reference; own key process design decisions and trade-offs
  • Responsible to acquire, verify and consolidate technical inputs and assumptions from site and other collaborators; incorporate turnaround and operations requirements
  • Owns design philosophies and provide oversight and support to the appointed engineering contractors in delivery of their scope during the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) and Detailed Engineering ensuring that process design aspects meet bp requirements, and the design intent and ISD principles are preserved
  • Interpret and clarify technical practices and relevant codes and standards and provide review and assurance of process engineering and design work
  • Ensure that process engineering and technical inputs to key project work such as schedules, cost estimates, case/economics, HSSE studies etc are provided adequately and timely.
  • Accountable for the delivery of key design, safety and project evaluations and workshops such as design/PFD/P&ID reviews, plot plan, HAZOP, LOPA and environmental reviews and reporting
  • Accountable for addressing process design issues with considerations of cost, schedule, and quality; resolve risks to project delivery and ensure adequate risk mitigation plans are in place
  • Provide oversight on performance of engineering contractors and assist Engineer Manager in contract performance management for process engineering scope
  • Provide guidance to contractor process design engineers and process technology providers, including technology selection, planning and readiness assessments
  • Enable timely and effective engagement of other disciplines and Domain Experts (SMEs) and provide technical direction to project teams
  • Functionally lead other process engineers and flow assurance deployed to the project
  • Owns interface with process technology licensors and provide ownership of process design package
  • Support the engineering leadership in compliance with the relevant project specifications, engineering technical practices including review and endorsement of deviations in process engineering
  • Interface with and support environmental and social requirements with HSSE team.
  • Support process design engineering capability and competence through the active mentoring, coaching and training of other process engineers

What you will need to be successful

Must have educational qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or the equivalent

Preferred education/certifications:

  • Chartered Engineer or Registered Professional Engineer

Minimum years of relevant experience:

  • Minimum 18+ years in oil and gas/petrochemical/ refining/ chemical or equivalent, with minimum 8 years experience of process engineering work in capital projects

Must have experiences/skills (To be hired with):

  • Experience as a lead process engineer in projects in FEED and Detailed Design of major projects; or experience as a lead process engineer in design or operational roles in oil & gas, refining or chemical plants or equivalent
  • Experience working in a discipline leadership role, managing engineering contractor performance
  • Experience of major projects with strong design engineering background and sound knowledge of project processes
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and codes and standards
  • Experience of operator practices application and importance of such
  • Track record of consistent delivery under pressure and able to demonstrate effective project technical management and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster effective teamwork across multiple locations and teams and to integrate engineering across all disciplines
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and influence with all levels of the project team, engineering contractors and project leadership

Good to have experiences/skills (Can be trained for – learning/on-the-job):

  • Experience as a lead process design engineer on a large or complex project including a demonstrated ability to integrate engineering across all disciplines and manage contractors
  • Experience in working in concept selection/FEED stages of projects
  • Experience working under a range of Contracting models (reimbursable, lump sum, etc)
  • Knowledge of gas processing, refining or petrochemical processes and typical flow schemes
  • Experience and working knowledge of process simulation and other engineering software applications
  • A self-starter and pragmatic decision maker, willing to challenge and ensure engineering value is delivered.
  • Be self-motivated with a willingness to learn from others and work with minimum direction
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills and ability to lead through influencing others
