Role Synopsis:

The Mechanical Engineer will join the Production & Operations (P&O) Projects India organisation in the engineering and quality team to provide mechanical engineering support, oversight and judgment to Projects in the design, specification, procurement, fabrication and commissioning of pressure systems and mechanical equipment. This includes piping, valves, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, storage tanks, mechanical handling equipment and HVAC systems used for refineries and production facilities. The role is based at the Pune office but will require significant contractor facing work at major engineering contractor office locations in both India and possibly ex-India.

What you will deliver · Provide mechanical engineering support and contractor oversight to deliver safe design of cost effective, quality and competitive pressure systems and mechanical equipment to upstream and downstream projects. · As part of the owner /operator projects mechanical engineering team and Engineering Contractor(s) to deliver mechanical engineering scopes, including: o Provide technical guidance and review of mechanical engineering design contractor deliverables. o Provide requirements for mechanical equipment specification in requisitions/datasheets and selection as well as engineering package technical content. o Evaluate technical bids for mechanical equipment and pressure systems. o Make technical recommendations on requests for exceptions/deviations to specifications or standards. o Provide technical input and guidance to equipment suppliers performance and delivery, o Provide support for design issues and decisions with considerations of cost, schedule, and quality o Work with engineering contractor(s) to verify they are performing required activities in line with project schedules, and assist bp’s lead engineer in performance management. o Ensure that Engineering Contractor(s) apply bp’s Engineering Practices and industry standards in engineering designs. o Review of vendor Inspection and Test Plans, documents and drawings. o Review of procedures for mechanical equipment for factory acceptance test (FAT) and site acceptance test (SAT) plans o Record and share relevant takeaways o Support resolution of complex mechanical engineering technical challenges.

· Interface with other disciplines, construction, commissioning and operations teams for mechanical design.

What you will need to be successful

Must have educational qualifications:

· Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

Preferred education/certifications:

· Chartered Engineer or Registered Professional Engineer

Minimum years of relevant experience:

· Minimum 7+ years in oil and gas/petrochemical/ refining/ chemical or equivalent, with minimum 3 years experience of mechanical engineering work in capital projects.

Total years of experience:

· 7+ Years

Must have experiences:

· A good knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals related to pressure systems and mechanical equipment

including:

o Failure modes of pressure equipment

o Applicable design codes (ASME, BSI, ISO, IOGP)

· Experience of mechanical engineering delivery in Projects including design, specification, procurement, fabrication and

commissioning.

· Some technical knowledge of mechanical engineering design such as vessels and process equipment packages

· Track record of delivery on a major project

· Pragmatic decision maker, willing to challenge and ensure engineering value is delivered.

· Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the project team, contractors and engineering leadership.

Good to have experiences/skills (Can be trained for – learning/on-the-job):

· Experience of operating and maintaining mechanical equipment

· Experience in the design of piping, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, tanks and valves.

· Experience in mechanical handing and layouts design

· Experience of working with remote team and collaborative approach to delivery

· Self-motivated with a willingness to learn from others and work with minimum direction.
