Purpose of the role
The Retail Market Manager role is a senior leadership role within our Customer team and is responsible for the performance and development of 7-12 Business Managers across NSW. This role holds direct responsibility for the safety, customer, people, compliance, commercial and brand performance within their allocated market (80-110 bp stores)
Retail Market Managers are commercially astute and are required to adopt a federal (strategic) view. This role involves collaborating with support office functions to craft great experiences to delight our customers. This is a regional based role and frequent travel across our store network is required. Retail Market Managers are the custodian of our “who we are” values and are required to be visible within their markets.
Key Accountabilities
This role will report to Australian Retail & Convenience Senior Manager and will be fully accountable for the operational (safety, people, customer, commercial) performance.
Lead regional operations across 80–130 retail sites, driving performance in safety, people, customer experience, and commercial outcomes.
Own regional P&L and make strategic decisions within approved budgets and Delegation of Authority.
Manage maintenance and discretionary spend across the store network.
Hire, coach, and develop Business Managers to build high-performing teams.
Partner with office stakeholders to deliver market strategy and execution.
Conduct store visits to coach leaders, uplift performance, and celebrate success.
Represent frontline teams in support office forums to drive customer-focused outcomes.
Ensure compliance and performance across safety, people, and commercial metrics.
Maintain brand and campaign consistency across the region.
Essential Skills and Experience
Tertiary qualification within business, commerce, marketing, finance, human resources.
5-10 years senior retail leadership experience – fuel experience desired.
Strong financial literacy with the ability to interpret P&L, KPIs, and dashboards to inform operational planning.
Proven ability to lead and develop large, diverse teams to deliver high performance, culture and customer experience.
Skilled in stakeholder influence and collaboration to drive outcomes.
Advanced communication skills, including storytelling through written, verbal, and presentation formats.
Solid understanding of retail operations, including scheduling, budgeting, inventory, and loss prevention.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other digital workplace tools.
