As bp transitions to an integrated energy company, we must adapt to a changing world and maintain competitive performance. bp’s Customers & Products (C&P) business area is setting up a Business and Technology Centre (BTC) in Budapest. This will support the delivery of an enhanced customer experience and drive innovation by building global capabilities at scale, leveraging technology, and developing deep expertise. The BTC will be a core and connected part of our business, bringing together colleagues who report into their respective part of C&P, working together with other functions across bp. We are expanding our team in Budapest and currently looking for a Procurement Packaging Manager to join us.

In this role you will be accountable for the development and implementation of regional packaging sourcing strategy within the packaging supply market segment. You will develop and maintain deep relationships with business partners ensuring sourcing strategy supports local business strategy and vice versa. You will also develop and manage the relationship with regional suppliers and local relationship with global suppliers.

This role is a part of our European Procurement team of circa 7 people, supporting our European Business. The role therefore offers an international outlook whilst being based alongside the Budapest team. It is also a People Manager position (with two direct reports).

Key Accountabilities:

  • Build and maintain strong market / supplier knowledge and insight on all subcategories of spend that sit within the category, becoming a source of expert knowledge. From this develop regional and global category sourcing strategies and plans aligned to the needs of the business.

  • Lead the delivery of the strategic sourcing process to ensure delivery of defined category management strategies, in collaboration with business stakeholders.

  • Ensure all category sourcing arrangements are fully compliant to all corporate social, environmental, financial, risk, E&C and HSSE policies and standards and that all sourcing is performed in line with defined Delegations of Authority.

  • Accountable for the delivery of the contracts compliance agenda within the region as it appertains to Packaging.

  • Promote a culture of knowledge sharing and encourage close liaison between regions and segments to improve the overall performance of the team.

  • Set technical strategy and oversee activities to identify and implement opportunities to deliver quality and resilience across our packaging spend.

  • Lead all work on technical innovation and packaging development globally in line with business needs and priorities.

  • Define and monitor performance measures for the technical team, tracking levels of risk and provide management information on risk assessments.

  • Create and ensure strong involvement of the technical teams in OD&I activities to promote specification developments in line with business need.

  • Build liaison points with key suppliers within the remit of the team and be involved in business-critical final negotiations with them if required.

  • Represent BP with key market segment suppliers, ensuring BP’s performance requirements are understood and met, and provide visible and credible support at a leadership level to those who manage the interfaces; oversee robust and consistent supplier relationship globally.

  • Engage and work collaboratively with business stakeholders on a regional / global basis.

  • Be responsible for the development, performance management and career guidance of all direct reports within the reporting team.

  • Encourage / enable / manage direct reports interactions with the Procurement Hubs, in line with our operating model.

Essential Experience & Job Requirements:

  • Degree Qualified: A bachelor's degree (or equivalent) is required.

  • 12-15 years of experience in an appropriate technical and commercial discipline.

  • Proven experience managing raw material categories within global organisations.

  • Strong expertise in advanced sourcing methodologies and tools.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement global sourcing category strategies, managing both regional and global supplier bases.

  • Consistent track record of delivering multi-year business value in alignment with overall business and sourcing strategies.

  • Familiarity with e-sourcing/optimisation tools and experience working in a global procurement matrix organisation is highly desirable.

  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills.

  • Previous experience within energy/oil & gas sector would be highly advantageous.

  • Strong interpersonal skills combined with a collaborative working style.

  • Motivated self-starter with attention to detail and excellent relationship building skills.
