About the Supply, Trading, and Shipping Graduate Program:

Early careers who join the Supply, Trading & Shipping early careers program will follow one of these tracks: trading, analytics, operations, and marketing & origination. Please apply to one track at a time. Early careers will follow a structured development offer to accelerate the acquisition of foundational technical skills, experience, knowledge, and application in the business world. The program supports transition from university to discipline professional and provides a framework of ‘non-technical’ skills to support building personal effectiveness skills.

About the Operations Track within Supply, Trading, & Shipping:

The Supply, Trading & Shipping Graduate Development Program in the Chicago office supports the refining & products trading Americas (rptA) business. rptA is part of bp’s Supply, Trading and Shipping organization, the commercial face to the traded markets in the Americas. Supply Trading & Shipping (ST&S) is bp's face to the traded markets in oil, gas, power, chemicals, renewables and finance. ST&S's role is to improve bp Group value through distinctive supply, commodity trading, risk management and technology skills.

The Operations Team plays a crucial role in working with traders to implement strategies while leading all aspects of end-to-end supply chain processes. They serve a vital function collaborating with several business partners and contribute to the overall operation of bp’s assets. The team in Chicago is made up of sub teams, including, Trading Operations, Voyage Operations, Cargo Assurance and Inventory. The goal of Trading Operations is to provide an outstanding level of service to bp’s Trading and Shipping trading community, while maintaining a focus on safety, compliance and risk mitigation. Trading Operators lead all aspects of the deal to the best commercial advantage once it has been completed by a trader. Operators utilize multiple modes of transportation to ensure safe receipt or delivery of products including ships, barges, pipelines, trucks, railcars and blending.

The Operations Development role is structured to provide a broad overview and introduction to operations for a new employee. The Operator will spend approximately three years in this role with rotations in different teams and modes of transport gaining the vital skills and experience to be placed into a full-time operations role upon completion of the program.
The areas of exposure can include, but are not limited to:

  • Executing physical movements

  • Understanding multiple modes of transport

  • Maintaining a commercial mindset to identify opportunities to optimize profits and lower costs

  • Developing strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders

  • Identifying process efficiencies and support the implementation of change

  • Supporting ad hoc initiatives, problem solving and/or projects

  • Participation in recruiting and development efforts


Minimum Requirements:

  • Working toward Bachelor’s degree

  • Graduating between December 2025 and May 2026

  • Current Cumulative GPA Minimum 3.0

  • Eligible to work in the U.S. with no restrictions (bp will not support U.S. Immigration sponsorship for full-time or long-term employment)

  • Must be available to start on agreed upon global program start dates (January 20, 2026 or July 13, 2026).
