Cost Management Subject Matter Expert

The Cost Management SME is a valued member of our team, accountable for partnering with the North Sea Performance Management team and Accounting, Reporting and Control (ARC) team to deliver cost management services to the same Business.

The primary customers are the Discipline Managers, Discipline Leads, Cost Engineers and Budget Responsible Officers (BRO’s) within the M&E and Ops Management Enablers. The scope of this role includes using technology and systems to support BRO’s in managing their costs; prepare cost data in alignment with bp Financial processes and drawing cost management performance insights to drive improved business outcomes. He is also accountable to provide support to assess the Value of work done (VOWD) and calculate the Accrual during PEC.

In this role You will:

  • Supporting select M&E and Ops Management BRO’s in the preparation of monthly Value of Work Done (VOWD)
  • Continuously improve this process and support application of VOWD within Cost Management Tool (CMT)
  • Assure that VOWD flows properly from CMT to Accrual Calculation tool (ACT) and provide variance analysis to accruals
  • To act as a „Super User” on ACT, acting as a focal point and first line of enquiry on technical issues, providing guidance and training to other members of the team.
  • Working with BRO’s to define Allocations splits from Sender to Receiver CCs
  • Monitoring POs status for Closure and advice BRO’s on a healthy PO maintenance status
  • Support upkeep of CMT and ACT master data
  • Promoting the use of new and/or standardized systems and coach BRO’s on how to use available tools to drive self-service, efficiency, and generate value.
  • Work with Line Manager and Business teams to understand the priorities and work to deliver against these as required.
  • Look for opportunities to drive process improvements of a notable nature across the team and work with the relevant people to put these in place. This includes taking a leading role in implementing changes in processes and tools.
  • To develop a good understanding of the area of the business that they support
  • Carry out regular daily/weekly/monthly activities in a timely and accurate manner assigned to their role
  • To align with any other job-related requirements. This may be defined by a task list, month end or quarter end timetable or defined by one’s relevant Line Manager or by business contact.

What You will need to be successful:

  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience in related Finance area
  • Fluency in English
  • Strong level of analytical skills, numeracy and strong financial understanding
  • Customer- and service-oriented thinking
  • A problem solver with a readiness for action and ability to work under pressure
  • Self-confident appearance in relations to the internal and external contacts
  • Assertiveness and ability to influence
