Please Note: This is a Utah-based hybrid position which will require some regular in-office days each week. Additionally, employment with BambooHR is contingent on passing both a background and credit check.
Essential Job Duties
We're seeking a Director of FinOps at BambooHR, who will be responsible for leading cloud financial management across our organization. You will work closely with cross-functional teams across engineering, finance, and operations to optimize our cloud spend while maintaining performance excellence. As we continue to grow and expand our cloud infrastructure, you'll be the go-to person for all things related to cloud financial management.
You will:
FinOps Strategy Development:
- Lead the charge in developing and implementing our FinOps strategy to keep our cloud spend in check.
- Build and maintain a cloud financial management framework, including budgeting and forecasting.
- Work with cloud service providers to negotiate contracts and optimize pricing.
Cost Management and Optimization:
- Collaborate with teams to establish and promote best practices for cloud cost management.
- Identify opportunities to save costs and drive initiatives that reduce cloud expenditures without sacrificing performance.
- Use your analytical skills to monitor, analyze, and report on cloud usage and spending.
Team Development and Education:
- Be the FinOps guru, educating and training our teams on cloud cost management.
- Lead and mentor a team of FinOps professionals, fostering a culture of growth and collaboration.
- Present complex financial data and insights to executive audiences, with the ability to communicate effectively and influence decision-making at the highest levels.
Strategic Planning and Innovation:
- Stay in the loop with industry trends and emerging technologies to keep us ahead of the curve.
- Develop and implement cost optimization strategies for cloud environments.
- Work with stakeholders to ensure financial strategies align with business objectives.
What You Need to Get the Job Done
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Information Technology, or a related field. An MBA or relevant advanced degree is a plus.
- 8+ years of experience in finance, operations, or IT, with at least 3 years in a leadership role focused on cloud financial management.
- A solid understanding of cloud platforms (like AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and their pricing models.
- A track record of developing and implementing cost optimization strategies for cloud environments.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
- Experience presenting complex financial data and insights to an executive audience, with the ability to communicate effectively and influence decision-making at the highest levels.
- Leadership skills that inspire and motivate teams to achieve great things.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., FinOps Certified Practitioner, AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner) are a bonus.
- Familiarity with cloud-cost management platforms (e.g., CloudHealth, Cloudability).
- Exposure to showback/chargeback models and allocation methodologies.
